NETTLESTONE AND SEAVIEW PARISH COUNCIL NEWS

Once again last Christmas the eight trees provided by the Parish Council looked a picture and thanks must go to the following businesses for helping with their cost

Vic’s Stores, Londis, Nettlestone Tel: 612203

A.J. Brett (local builder) Tel: 613494

Peter Attrill (Garden Services) Tel: 564018

Flamingo Park Wildlife Encounter Tel: 612153

Priory Bay Hotel Tel: 613146

Vaughan & Page Tel: 614613

Northbank Hotel Tel: 612227

Residents are reminded that it is essential to support these and other local businesses at all times, use them or lose them. Thanks also to The P.C.C. of St. Peter’s, Nettlestone & Seaview Community Partnership and the local residents for their contributions. Without this support, it is likely that the Parish Council will have to consider reducing the number of trees.

Discussions at a well attended meeting of the Parish Council in February centred largely on residents’ concerns about the deteriorating standards of the local bus service and car parking in Seaview. It was reported that Southern Vectis Service 8 is consistently late with delays of up to forty minutes being experienced. A lack of an early morning bus is also causing difficulties for commuters. It was agreed to invite Councillor Edward Giles, who is responsible for transport on the Island, to a future meeting. Owners of local businesses are very concerned about the proposed loss of on street parking spaces in Madeira Road, necessary to allow for re-routing of the bus. Members of the Parish Council agreed that the proposals were unacceptable and informed Isle of Wight Council. Residents are reminded that the proposed changes to parking will be the subject of public consultation in the near future. Whether you agree or disagree with the proposals please respond accordingly.

Several planning applications were discussed and it was agreed to object to that for Providence, Seagrove Bay on the grounds of size and resultant loss of privacy for adjacent properties.

It was also agreed that, should a by election be necessary to fill the vacancy caused by the sad loss of David Smallwood before Christmas then, because of costs, poll cards will not be provided. This by election, if called, will take place on 1st April. Nomination papers, which need to be submitted by Friday 5th March, are available from the Clerk (Tel: 562257). The next meeting takes place on 15th March in St Peter’s Hall starting at 7.00pm.

If there are any businesses or organisations in Nettlestone and Seaview, who would like to be added to the Parish web site, please make contact by email or telephone and arrangements will be made for this to be completed.
