NETTLESTONE AND SEAVIEW PARISH COUNCIL NEWS September 2011.
Following receipt of a petition, signed by more than sixty local residents, complaining about the unreliability of Southern Vectis Bus Service 8, a list of the problems was submitted to the bus company. In their reply, the company states its ‘intention to revise the operation of the route from late October (having undertaken the statutory registration notice period), by adding an extra vehicle to the route. This represents an investment of around £100,000 per annum in providing the service. The extra vehicle working will allow the timetable to provide extra running time in some places, but also create a lay-over period in Sandown, and longer lay-over in Newport, allowing the service ‘recovery time’ during heavy traffic. One disadvantage for local residents will be that they will often have to sit on the bus in Sandown while it lays over on its way to Newport. A more consistent and reliable timetable should ease some capacity issues, but it is inevitable that on some busy journeys in the holiday season, standing is necessary. The Parish Council will continue to monitor the service following the introduction of these changes, hopefully with the assistance of service users. Residents are reminded that all Members and the Clerk are available to provide help and advice on local matters. Specific planning issues should be addressed to Cllr Thomas Foxley or the Clerk. Contact details for Members are as follows: - Cllr. Diana Tuson (Chairman), Solent View, 1, Nettlestone Hill, Seaview, PO34 5DL (Tel: 614401). Cllr Keith Bradford, Palmarsu, 16, Greenham Drive, Seaview, PO34 5LA (Tel: 613164). Cllr Beth Holloway, Crofton, Seagrove Manor Road, Seaview, PO34 5HW (Tel: 613497). Cllr. Web-site: www.nettlestoneandseaview.co.uk The next meeting of the Parish Council will take place on Monday 19th September in the Masonic Hall, Fairy Road, Seaview commencing at 7.00pm. As with all meetings, everyone is welcome to attend and make comments and ask questions on local matters.
Seasonal Flu Clinics will take place at St Helens Medical Centre on Wednesday 21st September between 0830 and 18.30 hours and at Bembridge Branch Surgery on Thursday 6th October between the hours of 900am and Midday. Unfortunately, the flu clinic at the Grace Church in Seaview has been discontinued as numbers have gone down from just over 100 three years ago to 28 last year. It is, therefore, not viable. The Practice wishes to recommend the Optio Car Service for patients who have difficulty getting to St Helens. It is very cheap and on flu day they are happy to gather up 3 or 4 people and bring them to the surgery, wait until they have had their jab, then take them home. For one-off medical appointments, there is a minimum charge of £3.00 per journey under 6 miles and a driver's mileage charge of 45p per mile, paid directly to the volunteer driver. Mileage costs are calculated from the driver's home and return, not from user's address. Please telephone 522226 to book your car and driver.
