The annual meeting of the Parish Council followed, with the election of a new chairman being the first order of business. Councillor Diana Tuson was elected with Councillor John Kalaher replacing her as Vice-chairman. Councillor Diane Thomas Foxley was re-elected Chairman of Planning. Members wished a speedy recovery to Councillor Jim Howkins who was in hospital.
Agenda items included the suggested re-routing of bus service 8. Isle of Wight Councillor Barry confirmed that trials by the bus company in conjunction with the Highways Department had been completed over several routes and that, apart from Madeira Road, that via Church Street is considered the only practical way in which buses can serve the centre of the village. Some work will be required to overhanging trees and there will be the need for some parking restrictions. Although reservations about road safety were expressed Members agreed this to be the only remaining viable option. Concern remains about the loss of parking spaces in Madeira Road.
Members heard that a decision regarding the footpath Modification Order at Seagrove Bay should be made by Isle of Wight Council this week and that a draft copy of the lease of Sandlands Allotments has been requested.
The next meeting takes place on Monday 21st June in St. Peter’s Hall commencing at 7.00pm where, as always, everyone is welcome.
